Prime Minister Stresses Importance of Exams for Medical Students

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia emphasized the crucial role of examinations, particularly for medical students, declaring that no medical admission will be granted without passing the exam. His remarks were made during the closing ceremony of the 2023 work review meeting and the 2024 work direction of the Ministry of Health on the afternoon of March 19.

Addressing attendees, Prime Minister Hun Manet urged medical students to prioritize passing the exam before seeking admission, highlighting its significance in ensuring competency and proficiency in the medical profession. He emphasized the responsibility of medical practitioners in providing accurate and effective treatment to the people they serve, underscoring the importance of rigorous examination to assess their capabilities.

"I would like to urge all medical students not to seek admission without passing the exam, as this examination is crucial for ensuring that we, as doctors, are equipped to fulfill our duty of providing care without error," stated the Prime Minister.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Hun Manet directed all ministries and institutions to prioritize the training and quality of students, particularly in the field of medical education. He stressed the need for transparent and comprehensive examinations to maintain the integrity and standards of medical education in Cambodia.

"Medical education must be transparent and inclusive, with examinations being an integral part of the process," he affirmed.

Acknowledging the steady growth in the capacity of Cambodian medical students, the Prime Minister also revealed plans for recruiting officials in accordance with a new flexible framework. This framework would allow officials to transition between the public and private sectors while maintaining seniority, facilitating recruitment based on merit and expertise.

Prime Minister Hun Manet's directives underscore the government's commitment to upholding the highest standards in medical education and ensuring that healthcare professionals are adequately prepared to serve the needs of the Cambodian population.
